About the Artist
Bio
Margaret MacKenzie is a contemporary painter working primarily in oils and acrylics.
Originally trained in Classics and Landscape Architecture, Margaret spent many years with leading design firms in Toronto before moving to a smaller town on the shores of Lake Ontario. There, she established her own Landscape Architecture practice continuing a career that spanned more than 30 years.
Her transition to full-time painting began during the pandemic. The design sensibilities she developed throughout her career—her eye for form, balance and spatial relationships—now underpin her approach to art.
Margaret has observed that she often sees the world as an arrangement of shapes, shadows, textures and colours. It’s the composition of those elements that captures her attention, sometimes before she fully registers the subject itself.
She now lives in the beautiful Northumberland Hills near Cobourg, Ontario and paints in her studio near the lake.
Currently, Margaret is working on a series of semi-abstract paintings that reference these hills and the shoreline of Lake Ontario.
